YouTube is a vast platform and it attracts a lot of digital creators who want to share their ideas with the world. Oftentimes, those video and vlog creators are scattered across the globe meaning that they know different languages and speak English with a different accent than yours. That’s why the Accent Challenge became a thing, where YouTubers say different words and answer different questions to test their accent.
There are a lot of popular challenges on YouTube. They’re a fun thing to do and come up with because they make a lot of people laugh and attract more people to join the audience. The same goes for the accent challenge, especially if you attempt it with a group of friends.
Accent challenge isn’t only made for entertainment purposes. In reality, there are thousands of unique accents, so performing this challenge is nothing less than educational. It’ll introduce a lot of people to different accents, and tell them more about how you or your friends sound.
The Accent Challenge
Just like any challenge on YouTube, the point of The Accent challenge is to make you and your audience laugh. However, there are two types of accent challenge. The first one originated from the social media platform Tumblr, while the other one was inspired after the Ellen DeGeneres Show.
You can either film both challenges in one video or film the challenges separately. It’s up to you, but it’s worth trying out both challenges because they’re so much fun.
Tumblr Accent Challenge
For Tumblr Accent Challenge, all you have to do is to set your camera shooting towards your face so that it can record your speaking and your reaction to saying certain words. If you’re playing in a group, make sure that your audience can see your friends sleeping.
Here are the questions to answer the challenge.
1. Tell me where you’re from.
2. Say your name and username
3. Say what is it called when you throw the toilet paper on a house?
4. Pronounce the following words:
- New Orleans
5. What is a bubbly carbonated drink called?
6. What do you call your grandparents?
7. What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
8. What do you call gym shoes?
9. What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket
10. Do you think you have an accent?
11. Pick a book and read a paragraph from it.
12. Say three words that come up to your mind to end the challenge.
It’d be best to play this challenge with people from different states or countries and see how their accent sounds. We’re sure it’d be hilarious. Also, don’t be surprised if the reaction of some people will be different, not everyone pronounces certain words the same as you do, and that’s okay.
Also, the Tumblr challenge doesn’t have to end with the questions we listed. You can come up with your own words to use, as well as questions. We believe that making the video a bit longer and filling it with different words and accents can be more interesting to your audience.
Ellen Accent Challenge
The Ellen Accent Challenge is a little bit different, and it came from The Ellen Show. So, how does it work? You can write a list of different accents on different pieces of paper or cardboard, then your partner will raise it above the head, and you’ll start talking in that accent. Your partner then has to guess which accent it is.
